.Postcard I made for Anna.

Anna only received the other side with the letter & stamp which was written on a brown paper bag glued to the laminated card I picked up & which I collaged on this side. Was some prick of a post(wo)man in Louisiana or Oakland offended by it? Too Weird? Who cares.

heart strings pulled

It is now almost time for me to move further West. Tomorrow morning, me & Rosie will be heading to Houston. Uncertain of what is to come next is thrilling but I don’t find Texas very thrilling at all. However we have friends there that we look forward to seeing if our hitch hiking boogie doesn’t work out there tomorrow. I did a horrible job of keepin’ this tumblr up to date with my thoughts, stories, & photos. While being here in New Orleans, I lost all inhibition & care for privileges such as the internet partially due to my stupor of romantic-inebriated-indulgent-productive-collective madness. This place is throbbing with beauty & pain. I will never quite fully grasp what its really like here. I came at a time when I was in a vulnerable state. New Orleans in February will gently wrap you in silk, sing to you, & soon enough you’re in this substance addled  debaucherous love affair.

Yesterday I spent my mardi gras day in the swamps with Rob, Giorgios, & Rosie. Attacked by swarms of mosquitos while gazing at the frogs, gators, & crabs. No cottonmouth snakes were to be seen. Evening was spent hanging around the bermuda triangle of bars on St. Claude & had many o bloody mary’s while singing, dancing & kissing at Kajuns. Last friendly body entanglement for warmth & comfort. Today is the first day of Lent, which I’m not fond of participating in but I am looking forward to detoxing & reminiscing my baggage of blissful sin. I will miss all the lovely friends I have made here. I often wonder how soon I can get myself back to these neck of the woods.

I am going to cleanse my physical body now & wash away the layers of grime & glitter i have collected from this week. More elaborate tales to come.

Feb 8th, Rob’s birthday, French Quarter.

Crescent City Dreams

3 days ago RosiePose(RP) & I finally made it here to New Orleans after 3 gnarly days of Greyhound hell. We were delayed twice. Greyhound stories are best told in person so I’ll spare myself this time.  I want to confess that I am absolutely smitten with Nola! This place is so colorful, festive, alive, & dreamy! Our first day…….

February 5th

We arrived at 7am. Joey, a friend of a friend who is now a friend, picked us up soon after. “SO what do you guys wanna do?” he asked. “Well, I’m tired but maybe we can go grab coffee or something?” I replied. Joey insisted we go get the touristy bullshit over with & started to drive to Bourbon St in the French Quarter. It was the morning after the first day of pre Mardi Gras celebration. You can only imagine the stench & sight. The vomit & beads laid out on them block after block. Joey took us to some cafe with delicious pastries & a fine cup of coffee. Afterwards he climbed a tree & shook what we believed were Kumquats. We still have not clarified what citrus fruit it really was but me & Rosie held out our beanies to catch them. It was cute. Joey proceeded to drive us around & took us to a skate park he’s building, then took us to his house where we dropped our bags off. 2 seconds later he invited us on a walk to his friend Ally’s house. She was working inside of a small commercial truck where she was installing some stellar artwork. Really awesome gal! Joey started building the steps to get inside the truck & we helped her craft Star Tunnel.  Their friend, Rotten Milk, stopped by & told us the Sunday Second Line parade was going through the neighborhood so we took a break from arts n crafts & marched & danced down N.Broad St with what seemed like a thousand people. Made some friends. Cooked dinner. Finally slept horizontally.

(I’m going to make the rest short & sweet as possible)

February 6th

Majority of the day was la-dee-da la-dee-da. Me & RP walked to the Iron Rail infoshop in the French Quarter an hour before closing. Met 2 awesome volunteers, one (Zigga) which invited us to get drinks with them & their friend Peter at a nearby bar, The Abbey, before the Anti-Police Brutality March at 7pm. Marched, shouted, marched, shouted for an hour? Afterwards all of us then chased activism with beers & conversations. Attended an outdoor reading down in Jackson Square & saw familiar faces. Rob & John showed up & we were on a mission to drink White Russian Daiquiries from Jean’s & play a few games of pool. That we did. I walked back to The Abbey around midnight to meet up with Laurel, Rosie, Kate, & Zigga. One of their boo things called a cab for us to share & paid the fare. We were all too shitfaced to remember how to get home & kept directing the cab driver in circles as I was being choked in the front seat by his cologne & 5 air fresheners he had hanging. I had my head out the window like a half dog/drunk human hybrid. Laurel & I sang & improvised songs on the ukelele for 2 hours. 3am bedtime.

February 7th

Rosie woke up & was still drunk at 10am. Laurel, Kate, & myself were just haggard. Joey made us breakfast! Backyard girl talk for hours then the rest of the day me & Rosie spent the day crafting postcards. I only made 2 but there are many folks I am thinking about & am going to write to. We walked to Ally’s house & made tacos for dinner. 7:30 we walked to Rob & Kevin’s house to watch Princess & the Frog. I had never seen it but it seriously pulled some heart strings for sure. We talked about visiting our hibernating reptilian friends in the bayou’s this weekend.

Today

Borrowed some loaner bikes to drop the postcards at the post office. Ate falafel. Ally’s abode & finished working on Star Tunnel. Today is also Rob’s birthday. At this very moment me  & RP are waiting for his holler. Hitting the jazz scene tonight. Tomorrow & Friday there’s a play being featured at the Mudlark Theatre called Oogles. The flyer for it is so damn funny. It’s a $5 dollar donation or you get in for free if you have a face tattoo. I’m thinking of getting railroad tracks tattooed across my face & BUTT CRUST across my knuckles…..

You Go Girrrrlllll.
